How do I refinish a nice piece of furniture?
It is a mahogany chest of drawers with cat claw scratches on either side. It is a nice piece and semi-antique. I think it needs to be sanded down and stained??? Any EXPERT tips from the pros would be appreciated. Thanks!
if you want to refinish it,first strip it with stripper…I like a brand called Kleen Strip,once it is stripped, lightly sand it with 220 grit sandpaper, then run a semi wet sponge with water over it to open up the grain, now you are ready to stain it , once you stain it let it dry for a day ,then add a coat os sanding sealer,once that is dry sand it lightly with 150 grit sandpaper,then use a tack cloth to wipe the sanding dust off,now topcoat with varnish or polyurethene ,whish ever you use ,give it two coats ,leaving a day in between coats and also lightly sand with the220 sandpaper and tack cloth between topcoats.painting contractor who has refinished hundreds of items of furniture.
